Abstract Harmonic Analysis of Continuous Wavelet Transforms (Lecture Notes in Mathematics)

FREEDownload : Abstract Harmonic Analysis of Continuous Wavelet Transforms (Lecture Notes in Mathematics)

Abstract Harmonic Analysis of Continuous Wavelet Transforms (Lecture Notes in Mathematics) by Hartmut Führ
English | Apr 6, 2005 | ISBN: 3540242597 | 193 Pages | PDF | 1 MB
This volume contains a systematic discussion of wavelet-type inversion formulae based on group representations, and their close connection to the Plancherel formula for locally compact groups.

Abstract Harmonic Analysis of Continuous Wavelet Transforms (Lecture Notes in Mathematics)
The connection is demonstrated by the discussion of a toy example, and then employed for two purposes: Mathematically, it serves as a powerful tool, yielding existence results and criteria for inversion formulae which generalize many of the known results. Moreover, the connection provides the starting point for a – reasonably self-contained – exposition of Plancherel theory. Therefore, the volume can also be read as a problem-driven introduction to the Plancherel formula.

Game Theory: An Introduction

FREEDownload : Game Theory: An Introduction

E. N. Barron, "Game Theory: An Introduction"
2008 | ISBN: 0470171324 | 440 pages | PDF | 6 MB

Game Theory: An Introduction
Game theory arises in almost every fact of human and inhuman interaction since oftentimes during these communications objectives are opposed or cooperation is viewed as an option. From economics and finance to biology and computer science, researchers and practitioners are often put in complex decision-making scenarios, whether they are interacting with each other or working with evolving technology and artificial intelligence. Acknowledging the role of mathematics in making logical and advantageous decisions, uses modern software applications to create, analyze, and implement effective decision-making models.

While most books on modern game theory are either too abstract or too applied, this book provides a balanced treatment of the subject that is both conceptual and hands-on. Game Theory introduces readers to the basic theories behind games and presents real-world examples from various fields of study such as economics, political science, military science, finance, biological science as well as general game playing. A unique feature of this book is the use of Maple to find the values and strategies of games, and in addition, it aids in the implementation of algorithms for the solution or visualization of game concepts. Maple is also utilized to facilitate a visual learning environment of game theory and acts as the primary tool for the calculation of complex non-cooperative and cooperative games.

Important game theory topics are presented within the following five main areas of coverage:

– Two-person zero sum matrix games
– Nonzero sum games and the reduction to nonlinear programming
– Cooperative games, including discussion of both the Nucleolus concept and the Shapley value
– Bargaining, including threat strategies
– Evolutionary stable strategies and population games

Although some mathematical competence is assumed, appendices are provided to act as a refresher of the basic concepts of linear algebra, probability, and statistics. Exercises are included at the end of each section along with algorithms for the solution of the games to help readers master the presented information. Also, explicit Maple and Mathematica® commands are included in the book and are available as worksheets via the book's related Web site. The use of this software allows readers to solve many more advanced and interesting games without spending time on the theory of linear and nonlinear programming or performing other complex calculations.

With extensive examples illustrating game theory's wide range of relevance, this classroom-tested book is ideal for game theory courses in mathematics, engineering, operations research, computer science, and economics at the upper-undergraduate level. It is also an ideal companion for anyone who is interested in the applications of game theory.

Information Visualisation: Techniques, Usability and Evaluation by Ebad Banissi, Francis T. Marchese, Camilla Forsell, Jimmy Johansson
2014 | ISBN: 1443859818 | English | 290 pages | PDF | 5 MB

Information Visualisation: Techniques, Usability and Evaluation
Information visualisation is the field of study that is concerned with the development of methods for transforming abstract, complex data into visual representations in order to make that data more easily communicable and understandable. This volume reviews recent developments in information visualisation techniques, their application, and methods for their evaluation. It offers a wide range of examples of applied information visualisation from across disciplines such as history, art, the humanities, science and technology. Beginning with an examination of its medieval origins, it presents theoretical and applied approaches to information representation, including two and three-dimensional cartographic rendering and navigation techniques. In addition, it explores the language of shapes and how it can be employed to further the visualisation of multifaceted data. As a whole, this collection emphasises the important role that the visualisation process plays in extracting, analysing, and presenting the hidden layers of meaning found within large and complex data sets. It includes contributions from an international collection of researchers and authors. It is an introduction to the discipline of information visualisation, its current state of affairs, and its future trends. It includes a discussion of information visualisation's origins, providing an important historical context for the field. It is a comprehensive review of methods for shaping and rendering two and three-dimensional representations of abstract information. It covers the visualisation of interconnected networks of data in order to extract their causal relationships. It presents an approach to hierarchical structuring and re-structuring of information by applying methods of two-dimensional data mapping. It covers application of common metaphors for visualizing computer code, and visualisation analysis of historical events and their relationships. It includes a review of methods for evaluating information visualization tools, concepts, and methodologies, and recommendations for their application.

The Divine Imperative: A Study in Christian Ethics by Emil Brunner

The Divine Imperative: A Study in Christian Ethics by Emil Brunner
English | Sep 6, 2002 | ISBN: 0718890450 | 732 Pages | PDF | 34,7 MB

The Divine Imperative: A Study in Christian Ethics by Emil Brunner
One of the major works of the great German theologian Emil Brunner, The Divine Imperative deals with what we ought to do. People are unconvinced that there is an inviolable moral obligation governing human life because they do not believe that the 'good' can be precisely and clearly known. Haven't some generations called bad what others have called good' Aren't moral standards relative' Doesn't religion lack uniform and practical moral guidance' Brunner discusses the moral confusion we face. He analyses the nature of the Good, showing why the Christian faith as understood by the Protestant Reformers provides the only true approach and answer to the ethical problem. Philosophical ethics, whether ancient or modern, cannot correctly define the Good, because the Good is regarded either as too abstract and absolute or as too concrete and relative. Christianity, by contrast, sees the moral problem as one of responsibility between humans who are created so as to respond to God. He created men for responsive fellowship with Him, establishing orderly ways of acting in the world. Correct understanding of the nature of society, family, state, economic life, is needed to discern one's duty. Because Brunner's analysis is at once fundamental and comprehensive, this book remains a fresh and compelling treatment of the moral problem. It offers a provocative discussion and solution of a perennial human problem.

Mean Curvature Flow and Isoperimetric Inequalities

Manuel Ritoré, Carlo Sinestrari, Vicente Miquel, Joan Porti, "Mean Curvature Flow and Isoperimetric Inequalities"
2010 | pages: 121 | ISBN: 303460212X | PDF | 1,6 mb

Mean Curvature Flow and Isoperimetric Inequalities
Geometric flows have many applications in physics and geometry. The mean curvature flow occurs in the description of the interface evolution in certain physical models. This is related to the property that such a flow is the gradient flow of the area functional and therefore appears naturally in problems where a surface energy is minimized. The mean curvature flow also has many geometric applications, in analogy with the Ricci flow of metrics on abstract riemannian manifolds. One can use this flow as a tool to obtain classification results for surfaces satisfying certain curvature conditions, as well as to construct minimal surfaces. Geometric flows, obtained from solutions of geometric parabolic equations, can be considered as an alternative tool to prove isoperimetric inequalities. On the other hand, isoperimetric inequalities can help in treating several aspects of convergence of these flows. Isoperimetric inequalities have many applications in other fields of geometry, like hyperbolic manifolds.
