Nonlocal Continuum Field Theories

Nonlocal Continuum Field Theories
English | Physics, Mechanics | 1. Jule 2002 | ISBN-10: 0387952756 | 376 pages | pdf | 2 mb
Nonlocal continuum field theories are concerned with material bodies whose behavior at any interior point depends on the state of all other points in the body — rather than only on an effective field resulting from these points — in addition to its own state and the state of some calculable external field.

Nonlocal Continuum Field Theories
nonlocal continuum field theories are concerned with material bodies whose behavior at any interior point depends on the state of all other points in the body — rather than only on an effective field resulting from these points — in addition to its own state and the state of some calculable external field. Nonlocal field theory extends classical field theory by describing the responses of points within the medium by functionals rather than functions (the "constitutive relations" of classical field theory). Such considerations are already well known in solid-state physics, where the nonlocal interactions between the atoms are prevalent in determining the properties of the material. The tools developed for crystalline materials, however, do not lend themselves to analyzing amorphous materials, or materials in which imperfections are a major part of the structure. Nonlocal continuum theories, by contrast, can describe these materials faithfully at scales down to the lattice parameter. This book presents a unified approach to field theories for elastic solids, viscous fluids, and heat-conducting electromagnetic solids and fluids that include nonlocal effects in both space and time (memory effects). The solutions to the field equations agree remarkably well with atomic theories and experimental observations.

Physical Properties of Quasicrystals
English | Physics | 30. November 1998 | ISBN-10: 3540651888 | 443 pages | Djvu | 10.2 mb
Quasicrystals are a new form of the solid state which differ from the other two known forms, crystalline and amorphous, by possesing a new type of long-range translational order, called quasiperiodicty, and a noncrystallographic orientational order.

Physical Properties of Quasicrystals
This book provides an up-to-date description of the unusual physical properties of these new materials. Emphasis is placed on the experimental results, which are compared with those of the corresponding crystalline and amorphous systems and discussed in terms of modern theoretical models. Written by leading authorities in the field, the book will be of great use both to experienced workers in the field and to uninitiated graduate students.

Jonathan Alderson, "Challenging the Myths of Autism: Unlock New Possibilities and Hope"

ISBN: 1554688701 | 2011 | EPUB | 248 pages | 2 MB

How many times have you heard that people with autism lack creativity? That they reject affection or suffer from mental retardation? As the number of children diagnosed with autism surges, researchers and educators are racing to define the amorphous nature of this spectrum disorder and its wide range of symptoms. But in trying to characterize this widely varying group, people often perpetuate a host of limiting and potentially damaging misconceptions in the media, in academic journals and even in textbooks. These myths don't hold up when examined, and they don't reflect Jonathan Alderson's experience working with more than 2,000 children and families over two decades.
