Turning the Page: The Evolution of the Book by Angus Phillips
2014 | ISBN: 0415625653, 0415625645 | English | 156 pages | PDF | 0.8 MB

Turning the Page: The Evolution of the Book
This is an exciting period for the book, a time of innovation, experimentation, and change. It is also a time of considerable fear within the book industry as it adjusts to changes in how books are created and consumed. The movement to digital has been taking place for some time, but with consumer books experiencing the transition, the effects of digitization can be clearly seen to everybody.

In Turning the Page Angus Phillips analyses the fundamental drivers of the book publishing industry – authorship, readership, and copyright – and examines the effects of digital and other developments on the book itself.

Drawing on theory and research across a range of subjects, from business and sociology to neuroscience and psychology, and from interviews with industry professionals, Phillips investigates how the fundamentals of the book industry are changing in a world of ebooks, self-publishing, and emerging business models. Useful comparisons are also made with other media industries which have undergone rapid change, such as music and newspapers.

This book is an ideal companion for anyone wishing to understand the transition of the book, writing and publishing in recent years and will be particularly relevant to students studying publishing, media and communications.

Domesday People: A Prosopography of Persons Occurring in English Documents 1066-1166 I: Domesday Book
This is the first of two volumes offering for the first time an authoritative and complete prosopography of post-Conquest England, 1066-1166. Based on extensive and wide-ranging research, the two volumes contain over eight thousand entries on persons occurring in the principal English administrative sources for the post-Conquest period — Domesday Book, the Pipe Rolls, and Cartae Baronum. Continental origin is a major focus of the entries, as well as the discussion of family and descent of fees which characterise the whole work; genealogical tables are included. An introduction discusses Domesday prosopography; an appendix gives the Latin texts of the Northamptonshire and Lindsey surveys.Post-Conquest genealogy and manorial history start with Domesday Book: genealogists will welcome this work.

Geld im Mittelalter

Jacques LeGoff, "Geld im Mittelalter"

Metal-Catalysis in Industrial Organic Processes

Gian Paolo Chiusoli, Peter Maitlis, "Metal-Catalysis in Industrial Organic Processes"
2006 | pages: 310 | ISBN: 0854048626 | PDF | 6,6 mb
Catalysis underpins most modern industrial organic processes. It has become an essential tool in creating a 'greener' chemical industry by replacing more traditional stoichiometric reactions, which have high energy consumption and high waste production, with mild processes which increasingly resemble Nature's enzymes.

Metal-Catalysis in Industrial Organic Processes considers the major areas of the field and discusses the logic of using catalysis in industrial processes. The book provides information on oxidation, hydrogenation, carbonylation, C-C bond formation, metathesis and polymerization processes, as well as on the mechanisms involved. In addition two appendices offer a concise treatment of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. Numerous exercises referring to problems of catalytic processes, and research perspectives complete the book.

This definitive reference source, written by practising experts in the field, provides detailed and up-to-date information on key aspects of metal catalysis.
