Brian Carroll, "Whitlam"
English | ISBN: 1921719133 | 2011 | EPUB | 256 pages | 9 MB

Whitlam
Edward Gough Whitlam was one of the most momentous figures in Australian political history. Born into a privileged life that should have seen him on the side with the 'born-to-rule gang,' Whitlam took a different path and joined the Australian Labor Party. Although he was branded as a 'silver tail' (one who is considered wealthy, usually by inherited money) by the rough and ready men of Labor, Whitlam fought to convince Labor that they were something more than just the political arm of the union movement, and that principle without power was an exercise in futility. He overcame party resistance and, in 1972, led Labor triumphantly into the government benches, where he became Parliamentary leader. However, the pace of change scared too many people and sudden developments in the world economic environment brought challenges Whitlam could not overcome. Nor could he overcome the local political challenges thrown down by the conservative forces, once they had recovered from the shock of the 1972 election results. Whitlam held them at bay when they forced him to the electors 18 months ahead of schedule in mid-1974. Although he won the election with a reduced majority, he and his colleagues seemed determined to continue providing the opposition with the ammunition needed to shoot him down, and on November 11, 1975, they finally did. This book recaptures the excitement of one of the most contentious and momentous events in Australian political history.

A detailed guide to the security options and configuration within Hadoop itself, author Bhushan Lakhe takes you through a comprehensive study of how to implement defined security within a Hadoop cluster in a hands-on way.

You will start with a detailed overview of all the security options available for Hadoop, including popular extensions like Kerberos and OpenSSH, and then delve into a hands-on implementation of user security (with illustrated code samples) with both in-the-box features and with security extensions implemented by leading vendors.

No security system is complete without a monitoring and tracing facility, so next steps you through audit logging and monitoring technologies for Hadoop, as well as ready to use implementation and configuration examples–again with illustrated code samples.

The book concludes with the most important aspect of Hadoop security – encryption. Both types of encryptions, for data in transit and data at rest, are discussed at length with leading open source projects that integrate directly with Hadoop at no licensing cost.

:

Explains importance of security, auditing and encryption within a Hadoop installation
Describes how the leading players have incorporated these features within their Hadoop distributions and provided extensions
Demonstrates how to set up and use these features to your benefit and make your Hadoop installation secure without impacting performance or ease of use

What you'll learn

This book presents several aspects of the active research ongoing in the field of Acoustic Waves. Theoretical efforts are leading to a deeper understanding of phenomena, also in complicated environments like the solar surface boundary. A whole class of widespread microdevices, including filters and sensors, is based on the behaviour of acoustic waves propagating in thin layers. The search for better performances is driving to new materials for these devices, and to more refined tools for their analysis.

Desert Lake: Art, Science and Stories from Paruku

Desert Lake: Art, Science and Stories from Paruku by Steve Morton, Mandy Martin, Kim Mahood, John Carty
2013 | ISBN: 0643106286 | English | 312 pages | PDF | 94 MB

Desert Lake: Art, Science and Stories from Paruku
Desert Lake is a book combining artistic, scientific and Indigenous views of a striking region of north-western Australia. Paruku is the place that white people call Lake Gregory. It is Walmajarri land, and its people live on their Country in the communities of Mulan and Billiluna.

This is a story of water. When Sturt Creek flows from the north, it creates a massive inland Lake among the sandy deserts. Not only is Paruku of national significance for waterbirds, but it is has also helped uncover the past climatic and human history of Australia.

The Walmajarri people of Paruku understand themselves in relation to Country, a coherent whole linking the environment, the people and the Law that governs their lives. These understandings are encompassed by the Waljirri or Dreaming and expressed through the songs, imagery and narratives of enduring traditions. Desert Lake is embedded in this broader vision of Country and provides a rich visual and cross-cultural portrait of an extraordinary part of Australia.

Risk and Social Theory in Environmental Management

FREEDownload : Risk and Social Theory in Environmental Management

Risk and Social Theory in Environmental Management by Thomas Measham, Stewart Lockie
2012 | ISBN: 0643104127 | English | 232 pages | PDF | 12 MB

Risk and Social Theory in Environmental Management
marks a timely contribution, given that environmental management is no longer just about protecting pristine ecosystems and endangered species from anthropogenic harm; it is about calculating and managing the risks to human communities of rapid environmental and technological change.

First, the book provides a solid foundation of the social theory underpinning the nature of risk, then presents a rethinking of key concepts and methods in order to take more seriously the biophysical embeddedness of human society. Second, it presents a rich set of case studies from Australia and around the world, drawing on the latest applied research conducted by leading research institutions. In so doing, the book identifies the tensions that arise from decision making over risk and uncertainty in a contested policy environment, and provides crucial insights for addressing on-the-ground problems in an integrated way.

* First volume to address environmental risk from a social science perspective
* Latest theoretical developments
* In depth case studies of contemporary issues (e.g. climate change, water shortages)

Agroecology, Ecosystems, and Sustainability

FREEDownload : Agroecology, Ecosystems, and Sustainability

Agroecology, Ecosystems, and Sustainability (Advances in Agroecology) by Noureddine Benkeblia
2014 | ISBN: 1482233010 | English | 393 pages | PDF | 12 MB

Agroecology, Ecosystems, and Sustainability
We hear a lot about how agriculture affects climate change and other environmental issues, but we hear little about how these issues affect agriculture. When we look at both sides of the issues, we can develop better solutions for sustainable agriculture without adversely affecting the environment. explores a modern vision of ecology and agricultural systems, so that crop production can be sustainably developed without further environmental degradation.

With contributions from experts from more than 20 countries, the book describes how to make the transition to modern agroecology to help the environment. It examines the global availability of natural resources and how agroecology could allow the world population to reach the goal of global sustainable ecological, agricultural, and food production systems. The book discusses important principles that regulate agroecological systems, including crop production, soil management, and environment preservation.

Making the link between theory and practices, the book includes examples of agroecology such as an interdisciplinary framework for the management of integrated production and conservation landscapes and the use of mechanized rain-fed farming and its ecological impact on drylands. An examination of how ecology and agriculture can be allied to ensure food production and security without threatening our environment, the text shows you how natural resources can be used in a manner to create a "symbiosis" to preserve ecological systems and develop agriculture.
