Security in Computing, 4th Edition
The New State-of-the-Art in Information Security: Now Covers the Economics of Cyber Security and the Intersection of Privacy and Information Security
For years, IT and security professionals and students have turned to Security in Computing as the definitive guide to information about computer security attacks and countermeasures. In their new fourth edition, Charles P. Pfleeger and Shari Lawrence Pfleeger have thoroughly updated their classic guide to reflect today's newest technologies, standards, and trends.
The authors first introduce the core concepts and vocabulary of computer security, including attacks and controls. Next, the authors systematically identify and assess threats now facing programs, operating systems, database systems, and networks. For each threat, they offer best-practice responses.

Security in Computing, Fourth Edition , goes beyond technology, covering crucial management issues faced in protecting infrastructure and information. Sea Legs: Tales Of A Woman Oceanographer

Sea Legs: Tales Of A Woman Oceanographer By Kathleen Crane
Publisher: Ba..sic Bo..oks 2003 | 320 Pages | ISBN: 0813340047 | PDF | 13 MB

Sea Legs: Tales Of A Woman Oceanographer
Crane chronicles the relentless adversity she faced in becoming a world-class oceanographer with a modest matter-of-factness that almost camouflages the high caliber of her achievements. During the 1970s, when Crane was struggling to accomplish her demanding and pioneering fieldwork on underwater volcanic activity–she was the first to postulate the existence of the now famous deep-sea hot springs–female scientists either weren't allowed on expeditions at all or only in pairs, and they were not only forbidden below deck but also lectured patronizingly on their apparel and behavior.

The British Troops in the Indian Mutiny 1857-59 (Men-at-Arms Series 268)
Fourteen months after the Peace of Paris concluded the Crimean War, the British Army was faced with a crisis which would require an even greater commitment of force. Putting down the Indian Mutiny would require two years, over half the British Army, and thousands of East India Company and loyal locals. The EIC's forces' better and more experienced command structure and superior rifle-fire prevailed against the massed ranks of sepoys and their allies. The three major operations that were undertaken by the British are detailed, as is the dress, equipment and uniforms of the troops.

Programming for Software Sharing

Programming for Software Sharing (Ispra Courses) by D.T. Muxworthy
English | Oct 4, 2013 | ISBN: 9400971478 | 300 Pages | PDF | 5 MB
Most computer users are familiar with the problems of sharing software with others, and the transfer of programs from one computing environment to another. Software represents an ever-increasing proportion of the cost of computing and these costs tend to nullify all the economic advantages flowing from the wider availability of cheap hardware. Years ago it was hoped that the widespread use of high-level programming languages would help in alleviating the problems of software production, by increasing productivity and by making it simpler for users with similar problems to be able to use the same programs, possibly on different types of machines.

Programming for Software Sharing
It is a common experience that in practice this simple optimism has proved to be unfounded. It was these considerations which led us in 1979 to organize a two-week course on "" at the European Community Joint Research Centre, Ispra Establishment (Italy), forming part of the regular series of "Ispra Courses". With prominent invited lecturers, local contributions and through discussion sessions we examined with an audience from many countries the problems involved in the sharing and transfer of software, as well as suggesting ways of overcoming them. In our local environment we are faced daily with three problems both from engagements in software exchange in the scientific-technical field on a Europe-wide or world-wide basis, and from work with programming techniques and contributions to the international standardization process.

Krystal Wade – Darkness Falls Series
1 – Wilde's Fire
Katriona Wilde has never wondered what it would feel like to have everything she's ever known and loved ripped away, but she is about to find out.
When she inadvertently leads her sister and best friend through a portal into a world she's dreamed of for six years, she finds herself faced with more than just the frightening creatures in front of her. Kate's forced to accept a new truth: her entire life has been a lie, and those closest to her have betrayed her.

2 – Wilde's Army
"Hello, Katriona." Those two words spark fear in Katriona Wilde and give way to an unlikely partnership with Perth, the man she's been traded to marry for a favor. Saving her true love and protector Arland, her family, and their soldiers keeps her motivated, but the at-odds duo soon realizes trust is something that comes and goes with each breath of Encardia's rotting, stagnant air. The moment when concern for her missing sister spirals out of control, all thoughts of trust are pushed aside and she finds herself trapped by the daemon tricks Perth warned her of. However, rescuing those she loves is only half the problem. Kate still must get to Willow Falls, unite her clashing people, and form an army prepared to fight in order to defeat Darkness. When so many she's grown fond of die along the journey, her ability to play by the gods' rules is tested. How will she make allies when the world appears stacked against her? And will she still be Katriona Wilde, the girl with fire?

3 – Wilde's Meadow
Happy endings are hard to find, and even though Katriona is in the middle of a war with someone who's already stolen more than she can replace, she aches for a positive future with her Draíochtans.
Armed with hope, confidence in her abilities, and a strange new gift from her mother, Kate ventures into the Darkness to defeat a fallen god.
Losses add up, and new obstacles rise to stand in the way.
Is the one determined to bring Encardia light strong enough to keep fighting, or will all the sacrifices to stop those who seek domination be for nothing?

Back to Full Employment

Back to Full Employment (Boston Review Books) by Robert Pollin
English | 2012 | ISBN: 0262017571 | ISBN-13: 9780262017572 | 208 pages | PDF | 6,4 MB
Full employment used to be an explicit goal of economic policy in most of the industrialized world. Some countries even achieved it. In Back to Full Employment, economist Robert Pollin argues that the United States–today faced with its highest level of unemployment since the Great Depression–should put full employment back on the agenda.

Back to Full Employment
There are good reasons to seek full employment, Pollin writes. Full employment will help individuals, families, and the economy as a whole, while promoting equality and social stability. Equally important, creating a full-employment economy can be joined effectively with two other fundamental policy aims: ending our dependence on fossil fuels and creating an economy powered by clean energy.

Explaining views on full employment in macroeconomic theory from Marx to Keynes to Friedman, Pollin argues that the policy was abandoned in the United States in the 1970s for the wrong reasons, and he shows how it can be achieved today despite the serious challenges of inflation and globalization. Pollin believes the biggest obstacle to creating a full-employment economy is politics. Putting an end to the prevailing neoliberal opposition to full employment will require nothing less than an epoch-defining reallocation of political power away from the interests of big business and Wall Street and toward the middle class, working people, and the poor, while mounting a strong defense of the environment. In the end, achieving full employment will be a matter of political will: Can the United States make having a decent job a fundamental right?

Transformation: Jung's Legacy and Clinical Work Today by Alessandra Cavalli, Lucinda Hawkins and Martha Stevns
English | 2013 | ISBN: 1780491603 | 288 pages | PDF | 0,9 MB
The book offers a challenging reading of the legacy of C. G. Jung, who produced fascinating insights into the psyche but did not provide a theoretical framework for clinical work. Thus, clinicians are faced with both the richness and lacunae of Jung's legacy and how to work with it.

Transformation: Jung’s Legacy and Clinical Work Today
This challenge is taken up by distinguished post-Jungian thinkers from Britain, Europe and the US who, in fertile contact with psychoanalysis, reassess Jung's work and propose new tools for clinical practice. By looking anew at concepts such as maternal containment, affect, ego formation and ego strength, infantile loss, envy and friendship they find ways of working that integrate Jung's thought with Post-Jungian developments and a psychoanalytic approach.

Handbook of Geographic Information by Wolfgang Kresse and David M. Danko
English | ISBN: 3540726780 | 2012 | 1130 pages | PDF | 54,7 MB

Handbook of Geographic Information
Computer science provides a powerful tool that was virtually unknown three generations ago. Some of the classical fields of knowledge are geodesy (surveying), cartography, and geography. Electronics have revolutionized geodetic methods. Cartography has faced the dominance of the computer that results in simplified cartographic products. All three fields make use of basic components such as the Internet and databases. The Springer Handbook of Geographic Information is organized in thre parts, Basics, Geographic Information and Applications. Some parts of the basics belong to the larger field of computer science. However, the reader gets a comprehensive view on geographic information because the topics selected from computer science have a close relation to geographic information. The Springer Handbook of Geographic Information is written for scientists at universities and industry as well as advanced and PhD students.
