Hierarchical Nanostructures for Energy Devices by Seung H Ko and Costas P Grigoropoulos
English | 2014 | ISBN: 1849736286 | 322 pages | PDF | 15 MB

Hierarchical Nanostructures for Energy Devices
Surface area has a directly relationship with the efficiency of energy devices. Hierarchical nanostructuring has the potential to greatly increase surface area, and their electrical properties are favourable, not only to energy generation and storage, but also energy-consuming electronic circuits.

This book provides systematic coverage of how nanostructured materials can be applied to energy devices, with an emphasis on the process of generation to storage and consumption. The fundamentals (including properties, characterisation and synthesis) are clearly presented across the first chapters of the book, providing readers new to the field with a clear overview of this expanding topic. The detailed discussion of applications will be an inspiration to those already well-versed in the field.

The editors have more than a decade of experience in working on all aspects of energy generation and storage – in academia, national laboratories and industry. The book presents a balanced view from all sectors and is presented in a format accessible by postgraduate students and professional researchers alike.

Fractal Mechanics of Polymers: Chemistry and Physics of Complex Polymeric Materials

Fractal Mechanics of Polymers: Chemistry and Physics of Complex Polymeric Materials by G. V. Kozlov, Yu G. Yanovskii
2014 | ISBN: 1771880414 | English | 384 pages | PDF | 11 MB

Fractal Mechanics of Polymers: Chemistry and Physics of Complex Polymeric Materials
This new book explores the consideration of relationships that connect the structural and basic mechanical properties of polymeric mediums within the frameworks of fractal analysis with cluster model representations attraction. Incidentally, the choice of any structural model of medium or their combinations is defined by expediency and further usage convenience only. This book presents leading-edge research in this rapidly changing and evolving field.

The book presents descriptions of the main reactions of high-molecular substances within the frameworks of fractal analysis and irreversible aggregation models. Synergetics and percolation theory were also used. In spite of the enormous number of papers dealing with the influence of the medium on the rate of chemical reactions (including synthesis of polymers), no strict quantitative theory capable of "universal" application has been put forward up until now. It is now possible to describe the relationship between the reaction rate constants and the equilibrium constants with the nature of the medium in which the reactions take place by means of a single equation. This important book for the first time gives structural and physical grounds of polymers synthesis and curing, and the fractal analysis is used for this purpose.

This new book:

* Highlights some important areas of current interest in polymer products and chemical processes

* Focuses on topics with more advanced methods

* Emphasizes precise mathematical development and actual experimental details

* Analyzes theories to formulate and prove the physicochemical principles

* Provides an up-to-date and thorough exposition of the present state of the art of complex polymeric materials

English | ISBN: 1420087118 | 2010 | PDF | 593 pages | 16,5 MB
Modern food biotechnology is now a billion-dollar industry, producing functional foods and nutraceuticals that offer a whole host of increased health benefits, including prevention against illness, and chronic and degenerative conditions.

Biotechnology in Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals
Written by a team of top-tier researchers and scientists from around the world, Biotechnology in Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals brings you up to speed on the cutting-edge research advances taking place in the field.

The book begins with an overview of recent advances in biotechnology and their contributions to food science. It then examines the impact of genetic modification on functional foods and explores various aspects of food manufacturing technology. This one-of-a-kind resource also gives insight into quality assurance and food safety and an assessment of where the field currently stands on legal, social, and regulatory aspects of food biotechnology. The book rounds out its solid coverage with a look at future directions in the applications of biotechnology to functional foods and nutraceuticals.

Biotechnology in Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals is the first book of its kind to position functional foods and nutraceuticals in the broader context of emerging technologies, making it a one-stop reference for food and nutrition scientists as well as researchers in the functional foods and nutraceuticals industries, nutritionists, dieticians, and supplement manufacturers.

Orchestration: An Anthology of Writings by Paul Mathews

Orchestration: An Anthology of Writings by Paul Mathews
English | November 21, 2006 | ISBN: 0415976839 | 248 Pages | PDF | 10,4 MB

Orchestration: An Anthology of Writings by Paul Mathews
Orchestration: An Anthology of Writings is designed to be a primary or ancillary text for college-level music majors. Although there are several 'how to' textbooks aimed at this market, there is little available that traces the history of orchestration through the writings of composers themselves. By collecting writings from the ninenteenth century to today, Mathews illuminates how orchestration has grown and developed, as well as presenting a wide variety of theories that have been embraced by the leading practitioners in the field.
The collection then traces the history of orchestration, beginning with Beethoven's Orchestra (with writings by Berlioz, Wagner, Gounod, Mahler, and others), the 19th century (Mahler, Gevaert, Strauss) the fin de siecle (on the edge of musical modernism; writings by Berlioz, Jadassohn, Delius, and Rimsky Korsakov), early modern (Busoni, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, Grainger, and others), and high modern (Carter, Feldman, Reich, Brant). Many of these pieces have never been translated into English before; some only appeared in small journals or the popular press and have never appeared in a book; and none have ever been collected in one place.
The study of orchestration is a key part of all students of music theory and composition. Orchestration provides a much needed resource for these students, filling a gap in the literature.
