Minimally Invasive Surgery of the Foot and Ankle

FREEDownload : Minimally Invasive Surgery of the Foot and Ankle

Mark Easley and Nicola Maffulli, "Minimally Invasive Surgery of the Foot and Ankle"
English | ISBN: 1849964165 | 2011 | 488 pages | PDF | 28 MB

Minimally Invasive Surgery of the Foot and Ankle
represents a novel approach to treatment of orthopedic problems in the foot and ankle. The gradual change of philosophy in the management of foot and ankle surgery means that patients require a less invasive approach to surgery and a consequent improvement in recovery time. Describing the techniques and, importantly, the indications for minimally invasive procedures for the management of foot and ankle ailments, this book will explain the management of various conditions and how they can be approached using minimally invasive techniques. However, rather than only concentrating on minimally invasive surgery of the foot and ankle, the authors will be examining the options open to surgeons operating in this area – both open surgical and arthroscopic – and explaining the benefits of each. Extensive radiographs, diagrams, and intra-operative pictures will illustrate the procedures described.

Blood Trails: The Combat Diary of a Foot Soldier in Vietnam

Christopher Ronnau, "Blood Trails: The Combat Diary of a Foot Soldier in Vietnam"
English | ISBN: 0891418830 | 2006 | EPUB | 320 pages | 4 MB

Blood Trails: The Combat Diary of a Foot Soldier in Vietnam
Chris Ronnau volunteered for the Army and was sent to Vietnam in January 1967, armed with an M-14 rifle and American Express traveler's checks. But the latter soon proved particularly pointless as the private first class found himself in the thick of two pivotal, fiercely fought Big Red One operations, going head-to-head against crack Viet cong and NVA troops in the notorious Iron Triangle and along the treacherous Cambodian border near Tay Ninh.

Patrols, ambushes, plunging down VC tunnels, search and destroy missions-there were many ways to drive the enemy from his own backyard, as Ronnau quickly discovered. Based on the journal Ronnau kept in Vietnam, Blood Trails captures the hellish jungle war in all its stark life-and-death immediacy. This wrenching chronicle is also stirring testimony to the quiet courage of those unsung American heroes, many not yet twenty-one, who had a job to do and did it without complaint-fighting, sacrificing, and dying for their country.

Includes sixteen pages of rare and never-before-seen combat photos

Alex's Wake: The Tragic Voyage of the St. Louis to Flee Nazi Germany-and a Grandson's Journey of Love and Remembrance by Martin Goldsmith
English | 2014 | ISBN: 0306823225 | 352 pages | EPUB | 3,5 MB

Alex’s Wake: The Tragic Voyage of the St. Louis to Flee Nazi Germany-and a Grandson’s Journey of Love and Remembrance
On May 13, 1939, the luxury liner SS St. Louis sailed away from Hamburg, Germany, bound for Havana, Cuba. On board were more than 900 Jewish refugees fleeing persecution in Nazi Germany. But an indifferent world conspired against them. After being denied landing rights in Havana, the refugees were turned away by the United States and Canada and forced to sail back to Europe, where the gathering storm of the Holocaust awaited them.

Two of those refugees were Alex Goldschmidt, a sixty-year-old veteran of World War I, and his seventeen-year-old son Klaus Helmut Goldschmidt. After their trans-Atlantic voyage, they landed in France. They would spend the next three years in one French camp after another before being shipped to Auschwitz in 1942.

Sixty-nine years later, Martin Goldsmith, Alex's grandson and Helmut's nephew, retraced their sad journey. Beginning in lower Saxony where Alex was born, Martin spent six weeks on the road and covered more than 5,700 miles, setting foot on the earth Alex and Helmut trod during their final days. Alex's Wake is Martin's eyewitness report.

The book offers a compelling history of the voyage of the St. Louis, including testimony from those on board, a tale of espionage, and the brave resolve of Captain Gustav Schroeder. It also offers a harrowing chronicle of the vast network of camps in France, many of which were organized by the French themselves with little or no encouragement from the Germans.

But Alex's Wake is also a contemporary travelogue and a heartfelt memoir of a second-generation American Jew trying to make sense of his heritage and to escape the burden of guilt and fear he long thought was his sole inheritance. Setting forth with the irrational, impossible desire to save two members of his family who were murdered ten years before he was born, Goldsmith concludes his journey by coming home to a moving symbol of remembrance at one of the scenes of the crime.

Fast, Fresh Garden Edibles Quick Crops for Small Spaces

Fast, Fresh Garden Edibles: Quick Crops for Small Spaces
Publisher: Creative Homeowner; First edition (December 21, 2010)
Language: English | ISBN-10: 1580115128 – ISBN-13: 978-1580115124 | Paperback: 176 pages | PDF | 109 MB
Fast, Fresh Garden Edibles solves two problems for many home gardeners. It shows gardeners without gardens how to grow vegetables in the smallest of spaces, including turning a small mostly paved courtyard or patio into a bountiful garden and how to make use of window boxes, containers, and hanging baskets to produce healthful and tasty fresh vegetables. And for those who want results without waiting all summer to start harvesting, Fast, Fresh Garden Edibles provides planting and growing techniques that help produce vegetables quickly. In addition, the book focuses on those vegetables and vegetables varieties that are known for short growing seasons.

Fast, Fresh Garden Edibles Quick Crops for Small Spaces
Author Jane Courtier is an experienced garden writer who brings her expertise to small-space, quick results vegetable gardening. She also provides sound advice for sowing, growing, and harvesting techniques.

If your time and space are limited b ut you harbor visions of fresh grown vegetables and leafy oases, this book is for you. I just built a fence around my small yard and thanks to this book, I am now planning the layout of a small but productive (I hope) organic garden. This book tells you how to go about it and is packed with advice and good ideas.
_____

I recently received a copy of this book and it has inspired me to add edibles to my patio garden. The author gives quick pointers, (nicely illustrated with photos) with helpful hints on planting, care, choices of crop. She has also divided the suggested plantings by growing time. Working with a limited amount of light and a fairly short season (I live in New York), it gives me an overview of what I'm in for, time-wise as I make my selections. I'd recommend this for urban gardeners and those with limited space who'd like to go a step further than just flowers in your balcony pots.
_____

Initially I bought this book to over come the inadequate coverage on growing herbs in my basic gardening books. This book overcomes the problem by including a much wider variety than the normal parsley, basil, and oregano selection. There are plain instructions for using paper bags to capture seeds or hang foliage for drying.

As a Square Foot Gardner, I'm always interested in getting as much production as I can out of small spaces. This book is not built on the SFG method, but is a great companion to the SFG book because of the way it uses containers to provide gardens on patios, paths, and other constrained spaces. It has many clear photographs and explanations that can keep beginners from going down the wrong path, and inform even experienced gardeners in better ways to tend and use their production.

The best thing is that the article for each plant is short and well illustrated. One does not have to wade through multiple sections to get basic information on growing techniques, how a health plant should look, pest prevention, and harvesting.
______

Great book, it made a great Christmas gift. great quality and very informative. really enjoyed all the suggestions and ideas.

Champlain’s Dream

Champlain's Dream by David Hackett Fischer
2009 | ISBN: 1416593330, 1416593322, 030739767X | English | 848 pages | EPUB | 18 MB

Champlain’s Dream
In this sweeping, enthralling biography, acclaimed historian David Hackett Fischer brings to life the remarkable Samuel de Champlain — soldier, spy, master mariner, explorer, cartographer, artist, and Father of New France.

Born on France's Atlantic coast, Champlain grew to manhood in a country riven by religious warfare. The historical record is unclear on whether Champlain was baptized Protestant or Catholic, but he fought in France's religious wars for the man who would become Henri IV, one of France's greatest kings, and like Henri, he was religiously tolerant in an age of murderous sectarianism. Champlain was also a brilliant navigator. He went to sea as a boy and over time acquired the skills that allowed him to make twenty-seven Atlantic crossings without losing a ship.

But we remember Champlain mainly as a great explorer. On foot and by ship and canoe, he traveled through what are now six Canadian provinces and five American states. Over more than thirty years he founded, colonized, and administered French settlements in North America. Sailing frequently between France and Canada, he maneuvered through court intrigue in Paris and negotiated among more than a dozen Indian nations in North America to establish New France. Champlain had early support from Henri IV and later Louis XIII, but the Queen Regent Marie de Medici and Cardinal Richelieu opposed his efforts. Despite much resistance and many defeats, Champlain, by his astonishing dedication and stamina, finally established France's New World colony. He tried constantly to maintain peace among Indian nations that were sometimes at war with one another, but when he had to, he took up arms and forcefully imposed a new balance of power, proving himself a formidable strategist and warrior.

Throughout his three decades in North America, Champlain remained committed to a remarkable vision, a Grand Design for France's colony. He encouraged intermarriage among the French colonists and the natives, and he insisted on tolerance for Protestants. He was a visionary leader, especially when compared to his English and Spanish contemporaries — a man who dreamed of humanity and peace in a world of cruelty and violence.

This superb biography, the first in decades, is as dramatic and exciting as the life it portrays. Deeply researched, it is illustrated throughout with many contemporary images and maps, including several drawn by Champlain himself.
