Psychological Assessment with the MMPI-2/MMPI-2-RF, 3rd Edition
This third edition apprises users of the MMPI-2/MMPI-2-Restructured Form (RF) for the ever-changing landscape of this dynamic personality/psychopathology instrument and its expanding utility in a variety of contexts. Two new chapters addressing the RC scales and the MMPI-2-RF are included in this updated text. Additionally, over 450 new references have been incorporated into the book, with information gathered and organized for practical clinical and forensic applications. The codetype interpretation chapter has expanded its sections with more in-depth feedback information and treatment considerations for clinicians to help in facilitating the formulation of treatment recommendations and strengthening therapeutic relationships with their clients. A number of special scales with clinical and forensic applications are also covered in this edition. An important section has been added addressing the MMPI and suicide.

This new edition is a must-have resource that will inform and guide users of the MMPI-2 and MMPI-2-RF in their daily practices, and assist researchers in conceptualizing the operating characteristics and configural relationships among the various scales and indices that comprise this instrument. From simple single scale interpretation to complex configural relationships, this text addresses a broad bandwidth of interpretive information designed for text users' at all levels of sophistication.

Relativity, Gravitation and Cosmology: A Basic Introduction

Relativity, Gravitation and Cosmology: A Basic Introduction By Ta-Pei Cheng
2009 | 355 Pages | ISBN: 0199573638 , 0199573646 | PDF | 6 MB

Relativity, Gravitation and Cosmology: A Basic Introduction
Einstein's general theory of relativity is introduced in this advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate level textbook. Topics include special relativity, in the formalism of Minkowski's four-dimensional space-time, the principle of equivalence, Riemannian geometry and tensor analysis, Einstein field equation, as well as many modern cosmological subjects, from primordial inflation and cosmic microwave anisotropy to the dark energy that propels an accelerating universe.
The author presents the subject with an emphasis on physical examples and simple applications without the full tensor apparatus. The reader first learns how to describe curved spacetime. At this mathematically more accessible level, the reader can already study the many interesting phenomena such as gravitational lensing, precession of Mercury's perihelion, black holes, and cosmology. The full tensor formulation is presented later, when the Einstein equation is solved for a few symmetric cases. Many modern topics in cosmology are discussed in this book: from inflation, cosmic microwave anisotropy to the "dark energy" that propels an accelerating universe.
Mathematical accessibility, together with the various pedagogical devices (e.g., worked-out solutions of chapter-end problems), make it practical for interested readers to use the book to study general relativity and cosmology on their own.

The Politics of Refugees in South Asia: Identity, Resistance, Manipulation

FREEDownload : The Politics of Refugees in South Asia: Identity, Resistance, Manipulation

The Politics of Refugees in South Asia: Identity, Resistance, Manipulation by Navine Murshid
English | 2013 | ISBN: 0415629306 | 160 pages | PDF | 1,2 MB
Partition and post-colonial migrations – sometimes voluntary, often forced – have created borders in South Asia that serve to oppress rather than protect. Migrants and refugees feel their real home lies beyond the border, and liberation struggles continue the quest for freedoms that have proven to be elusive for many.

The Politics of Refugees in South Asia: Identity, Resistance, Manipulation
States scapegoat refugees as "outsiders" for their own ends, justifying the denial of their rights, while academic discourse on refugees represents them either as victims or as terrorists. Taking a stance against such projections, this book examines refugees' struggles for better living conditions and against marginalization.

By analyzing protest and militarization among refugees, the book argues that they are neither victims without agency nor war entrepreneurs. Through interviews, surveys, and statistical analyses, it shows how states have manipulated refugee identity and resistance to promote the ideal of the nation-state, thereby creating protracted refugee crises. This is evident even in the most humanitarian state intervention in modern South Asia – India's military intervention in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) in 1971.

The findings put forward provide the basis to understand the conditions under which violence can break out, and thereby have implications for host countries, donor countries, and aid organizations in the formulation of refugee-policy. The book is of interest to scholars in the fields of South Asian studies, comparative politics, international relations, refugee studies, development studies, security studies and peace studies.

This book provides a comprehensive treatment of linear mixed models for continuous longitudinal data. Next to model formulation, this edition puts major emphasis on exploratory data analysis for all aspects of the model, such as the marginal model, subject-specific profiles, and residual covariance structure.

Linear Mixed Models for Longitudinal Data (Springer Series in Statistics) by Geert Molenberghs
Further, model diagnostics and missing data receive extensive treatment. Sensitivity analysis for incomplete data is given a prominent place.

Fundamentals of Structural Analysis, 2nd edition By Kenneth Leet and Chia-Ming Uang
2004 | 734 Pages | ISBN: 0071238301 | scanned PDF | 52 MB

Fundamentals of Structural Analysis, 2nd edition
This book introduces engineering and architectural students to the basic techniques for analysing most common structural elements, including beams, trusses, frames, cables and arches. The text covers the classical methods of analysis for determinate and indeterminate structures, and provides an introduction to matrix formulation, the basis of computer analysis. Extensive and fully worked out examples are used to illustrate all principles and techniques, and an increased number of homework problems gives the student in-depth understanding of structural behaviour. The discussion on approximate analysis will enable students to verify the accuracy of a computer analysis, as well as to estimate the preliminary design forces required to size individual components of multimember structures during the early design phase, when the tentative configuration and proportions of members are established.

Natural Products in Plant Pest Management

Natural Products in Plant Pest Management by Nawal Kishore Dubey
English | 2010-01-10 | ISBN: 184593671X | PDF | 400 pages | 3 MB

Natural Products in Plant Pest Management
Overzealous and indiscriminate use of many synthetic pesticides during recent decades in the control of plant pests has resulted in a number of environmental and toxicological problems. Reducing the release of synthetic chemicals into the environment requires that alternative sources of chemicals are developed that can be used safely in the management of plant pests. Botanical antimicrobials derived from plants are currently recognised as biodegradable, systemic, eco-friendly and non-toxic to mammals and are thus considered safe. Their modes of action against pests are diverse. Natural compounds are well suited to organic food production in industrialised countries and can play greater roles in the protection of food crops in developing countries Some plant based antimicrobials (e.g. neem products, pyrethoids and essential oils) are already used to manage pest populations on a large scale. Plant scientists and agriculturists now devote significant attention to discovery and further development and formulation of novel plant products with antimicrobial activity. This book is the first to bring together relevant aspects of the basic and applied sciences of natural pesticides and discussed trends in the use of natural products in pest management.
