Becoming a Successful Teacher of Mathematics
Becoming a Successful Teacher of Maths is a practical guide for newly qualified teachers of secondary mathematics. It develops the essential core knowledge, skills and understanding demanded by the new DfEE requirements for courses of initial teacher training. It is based on research findings relating to the organisation and management of maths classrooms, teaching approaches, assessment and the common misconceptions which often hinder pupils' progress in key areas of the National Curriculum. Theoretical principles are exemplified through case-study material. Suggestions for school-based activities are made. While being a practical 'how to' guide for beginning teachers, it also offers critical insights for more experienced teachers reflecting on their practice.

A People’s History of American Empire

FREEDownload : A People’s History of American Empire

A People's History of American Empire by Howard Zinn, Mike Konopacki, Paul Buhle
English | 2008 | ISBN: 0805087443, 0805077790 | 288 pages | PDF | 80 MB

A People’s History of American Empire
Adapted from the bestselling grassroots history of the United States, the story of America in the world, told in comics form

Since its landmark publication in 1980, A People’s History of the United States has had six new editions, sold more than 1.7 million copies, become required classroom reading throughout the country, and been turned into an acclaimed play. More than a successful book, A People’s History triggered a revolution in the way history is told, displacing the official versions with their emphasis on great men in high places to chronicle events as they were lived, from the bottom up.

Now Howard Zinn, historian Paul Buhle, and cartoonist Mike Konopacki have collaborated to retell, in vibrant comics form, a most immediate and relevant chapter of A People’s History: the centuries-long story of America’s actions in the world. Narrated by Zinn, this version opens with the events of 9/11 and then jumps back to explore the cycles of U.S. expansionism from Wounded Knee to Iraq, stopping along the way at World War I, Central America, Vietnam, and the Iranian revolution. The book also follows the story of Zinn, the son of poor Jewish immigrants, from his childhood in the Brooklyn slums to his role as one of America’s leading historians.

Shifting from world-shattering events to one family’s small revolutions, A People’s History of American Empire presents the classic ground-level history of America in a dazzling new form.

Setting the template for future Lucasfilm publications (especially The Temple Of Doom), this slim volume is set into four parts – synopsis, pre-production, on location and post-production – and wraps it all up with a full cast & crew list. With selected interviews – amongst others, Howard Kazanjian, the producer and Richard Marquand, the director but not Lucas or the main cast – and plenty of great, behind-the-scenes photographs, this is informative, good fun and lovely to look at. If you're interested in the films or how they're put together, this is definitely worth a read.

Catherine Howard

Lacey Baldwin Smith, "Catherine Howard"
2010 | ISBN-10: 1848685211 | 288 pages | EPUB, MOBI | 3 MB

Catherine Howard
A biography of Henry VIII's fifth wife, beheaded for playing Henry at his own game – adultery.

At seven o'clock on the morning of 13 February 1542, stepped out into the cold of the great courtyard of the Tower of London. Slowly she was escorted across the yard and carefully helped up the steps of the wooden scaffold. Only a small group of sightseers had gathered to watch the death of a queen; there was no weeping, no remorse, only chilly curiosity. The axe rose and fell, a life ceased, an episode came to an end. The life and death of Catherine was truly a Tudor tragedy.

A mere teenager, the vivacious and flirty was an unsuitable bride for the elderly and fat Henry VIII. Like most of Henry's wives she had come to his attention at court whilst lady-in-waiting to his fourth wife of only a few months, Anne of Cleves. Henry was soon besotted and came to adore Catherine, his 'very jewel of womanhood'. His head already turned by the 19 year old, Henry never consummated his marriage to Anne, he divorced her and married for the fifth time on 28 July 1540.
Lacey Baldwin Smith, one of the finest historians of the Tudor age, narrates the rise and fall of the most tragic of Henry's queens, the woman who dared to cuckold the king of England.
