Documentary Screens: Non-Fiction Film and Television
Documentary productions encompass remarkable representations of surprising realities. How do documentaries achieve their ends? What types of documentaries are there? What factors are implicated in their production? Such questions animate this engaging study. Documentary Screens provides a comprehensive and critical introduction to the formal features and histories of central categories of documentary film and television. Among the categories examined are autobiographical, indigenous and ethnographic documentary, compilation films, direct cinema and cinema verite and television documentary journalism. The book also considers recent so-called popular factual entertainment and the future of documentary film, television and new media. This provocative and accessible analysis situates wide-ranging examples from each category within the larger material forces which impact on documentary form and content. The important connection between form, content, and context explored in the book constitutes a new and lively "documentary studies" approach to documentary representation.

Schwerpunkt: From D-Day to the Fall of the Third Reich by S Gunty
English | December 8, 2014 | ISBN: 147873891X | 356 Pages | EPUB/MOBI/AZW3/PDF (Converted) | 9.33 MB
The world has been at war for 5 years and it looks like the Nazis are winning. The defeat of the German Army is the single most important task facing what's left of the free world.

Schwerpunkt: From D-Day to the Fall of the Third Reich
Schwerpunkt, the German word for critical striking point, tells the story of the D-Day Invasion and the battles leading to the final destruction of Hitler's Third Reich. Frank Greathouse, his infantryman brother Harold, and his paratrooper cousin Paul, write from the Allied perspective about the battles fought throughout France until the breach of Germany's impregnable Siegfried Line and the end of the war. Rudi Katzenmeier works for Field Marshal Erwin Rommel until General Rommel is eventually implicated in the plot to assassinate Hitler and is forced to commit suicide. Transferred to the German Infantry as a "Landser," Rudi writes of these same battles from the German perspective. This work of historical fiction provides an engaging and historically accurate portrayal of the last year of World War II. Little known but true stories of famous generals, both Allied and German, are brought to life in this must read book about the final year of Hitler's Thousand Year Reich.

Abiotic Stress Responses in Plants: Metabolism, Productivity and Sustainability

Parvaiz Ahmad, M.N.V. Prasad – Abiotic Stress Responses in Plants: Metabolism, Productivity and Sustainability
Published: 2011-11-18 | ISBN: 1461406331 | PDF | 627 pages | 7 MB

Abiotic stress cause changes in soil-plant-atmosphere continuum and is responsible for reduced yield in several major crops. Therefore, the subject of abiotic stress response in plants – metabolism, productivity and sustainability – is gaining considerable significance in the contemporary world. Abiotic stress is an integral part of “climate change,” a complex phenomenon with a wide range of unpredictable impacts on the environment. Prolonged exposure to these abiotic stresses results in altered metabolism and damage to biomolecules. Plants evolve defense mechanisms to tolerate these stresses by upregulation of osmolytes, osmoprotectants, and enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants, etc. This volume deals with abiotic stress-induced morphological and anatomical changes, abberations in metabolism, strategies and approaches to increase salt tolerance, managing the drought stress, sustainable fruit production and postharvest stress treatments, role of glutathione reductase, flavonoids as antioxidants in plants, the role of salicylic acid and trehalose in plants, stress-induced flowering. The role of soil organic matter in mineral nutrition and fatty acid profile in response to heavy metal stress are also dealt with. Proteomic markers for oxidative stress as a new tools for reactive oxygen species and photosynthesis research, abscisic acid signaling in plants are covered with chosen examples. Stress responsive genes and gene products including expressed proteins that are implicated in conferring tolerance to the plant are presented. Thus, this volume would provides the reader with a wide spectrum of information including key references and with a large number of illustrations and tables.
