The Politics of Refugees in South Asia: Identity, Resistance, Manipulation

FREEDownload : The Politics of Refugees in South Asia: Identity, Resistance, Manipulation

The Politics of Refugees in South Asia: Identity, Resistance, Manipulation by Navine Murshid
English | 2013 | ISBN: 0415629306 | 160 pages | PDF | 1,2 MB
Partition and post-colonial migrations – sometimes voluntary, often forced – have created borders in South Asia that serve to oppress rather than protect. Migrants and refugees feel their real home lies beyond the border, and liberation struggles continue the quest for freedoms that have proven to be elusive for many.

The Politics of Refugees in South Asia: Identity, Resistance, Manipulation
States scapegoat refugees as "outsiders" for their own ends, justifying the denial of their rights, while academic discourse on refugees represents them either as victims or as terrorists. Taking a stance against such projections, this book examines refugees' struggles for better living conditions and against marginalization.

By analyzing protest and militarization among refugees, the book argues that they are neither victims without agency nor war entrepreneurs. Through interviews, surveys, and statistical analyses, it shows how states have manipulated refugee identity and resistance to promote the ideal of the nation-state, thereby creating protracted refugee crises. This is evident even in the most humanitarian state intervention in modern South Asia – India's military intervention in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) in 1971.

The findings put forward provide the basis to understand the conditions under which violence can break out, and thereby have implications for host countries, donor countries, and aid organizations in the formulation of refugee-policy. The book is of interest to scholars in the fields of South Asian studies, comparative politics, international relations, refugee studies, development studies, security studies and peace studies.

English | ISBN: 0826171281 | 2011 | PDF | 744 pages | 6,5 MB

Evidence-Based Geriatric Nursing Protocols for Best Practice: Fourth Edition
"The evidence-based protocols are designed as a primary reference and are useful, substantive, and timelyThe broader contributions of useful format and succinct review of the evidence make it likely that this text will continue to be the leading resource in nursing education and practice."–The Gerontologist

"Now more than ever, nurses are called upon to lead efforts to embed evidence-based practice in daily operations. As the IOM report states, 'nurses have key roles to play as team members and leaders for a reformed and better-integrated, patient-centered health care system.' The process of implementing sweeping change in health care will likely take years; however, nurses must start pragmatically and focus on these critically important protocols that have demonstrated improved outcomes for older adults. Simply stated, 'Pick this book up and use it.'"

From the Foreword, Susan L. Carlson, MSN, APRN, ACNS-BC, GNP-BC, FNGNA
President, National Gerontological Nursing Association

"As a gerontological clinical educator/research nurse, I will often use this as a reference. The format and the content are good, and the explanations of how to best use the evidence simplify the process of sifting through mountains of information to figure the best practice." Score: 97, 5 Stars. –Doody's

One of the premier reference books for geriatric nurses in hospital, long-term, and community settings, this 4th edition has been thoroughly updated to provide the most current, evidence-based protocols for care of common clinical conditions and issues in elderly patients. Designed to improve the quality, outcomes, and cost-effectiveness of health care, these guidelines are the result of collaboration between leading practitioners and educators in geriatric nursing and New York University College of Nursing.

Protocols for each clinical condition have been developed by experts in that particular area, and most have been systematically tested by over 300 participating hospitals in "Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders" (NICHE). Evidence is derived from all levels of care, including community, primary, and long-term care. A systematic method in compliance with the AGREE appraisal process was used to rate the levels of evidence for each protocol. Protocols are organized in a consistent format for ease of use, and each includes an overview, evidence-based assessment and intervention strategies, and an illustrative case study with discussion. Additionally, each protocol is embedded within chapter text, which provides the context and detailed evidence for the protocol. Each chapter contains resources for further study.

Mindfulness and Acceptance in Couple and Family Therapy by Diane R. Gehart
English | 2012-03-30 | ISBN: 1461430321 | PDF | 250 pages | 3,6 MB

Mindfulness and Acceptance in Couple and Family Therapy
Mindfulness-based and acceptance-oriented therapies have become important treatment options for concerns as varied as depression, stress, and addictions, and are increasingly recognized as holding significant promise for addressing the complexity of relational issues. Especially as overwhelmed couples and overscheduled families struggle with issues of communication, trust, and forgiveness, mindfulness-the art of being in the moment and accepting without judgment-may hold powerful keys to healing.

offers professionals a practical, straightforward guide to how mindfulness works and why it is well-suited to many seemingly intractable relational problems. Introductory chapters review psychological and relational benefits of mindfulness, summarize its robust empirical base, and explain how being present can directly affect entrenched family issues and couples' longstanding behavioral impasses. Case examples and sample exercises illustrate therapeutic mindfulness and acceptance in action. Mindfulness and acceptance are applied to all aspects of practice, including building a therapeutic relationship, case conceptualization, treatment planning, and intervention. In addition, Dr. Gehart provides numerous practice-ready resources, such as:
Sample questions and assessment techniques for case conceptualization.
Treatment plan templates for individuals, couples, and families.
Handouts and web resources for teaching mindfulness in session.
Detailed intervention instructions and handouts.
As an evidence-informed therapeutic approach to difficult cases, or as a guide to more philosophical practice, is an exciting new resource for couple and family practitioners, psychologists, social workers, and counselors.
