Fast, Fresh Garden Edibles Quick Crops for Small Spaces

FREEDownload : Fast, Fresh Garden Edibles Quick Crops for Small Spaces

Fast, Fresh Garden Edibles: Quick Crops for Small Spaces
Publisher: Creative Homeowner; First edition (December 21, 2010)
Language: English | ISBN-10: 1580115128 – ISBN-13: 978-1580115124 | Paperback: 176 pages | PDF | 109 MB
Fast, Fresh Garden Edibles solves two problems for many home gardeners. It shows gardeners without gardens how to grow vegetables in the smallest of spaces, including turning a small mostly paved courtyard or patio into a bountiful garden and how to make use of window boxes, containers, and hanging baskets to produce healthful and tasty fresh vegetables. And for those who want results without waiting all summer to start harvesting, Fast, Fresh Garden Edibles provides planting and growing techniques that help produce vegetables quickly. In addition, the book focuses on those vegetables and vegetables varieties that are known for short growing seasons.

Fast, Fresh Garden Edibles Quick Crops for Small Spaces
Author Jane Courtier is an experienced garden writer who brings her expertise to small-space, quick results vegetable gardening. She also provides sound advice for sowing, growing, and harvesting techniques.

If your time and space are limited b ut you harbor visions of fresh grown vegetables and leafy oases, this book is for you. I just built a fence around my small yard and thanks to this book, I am now planning the layout of a small but productive (I hope) organic garden. This book tells you how to go about it and is packed with advice and good ideas.
_____

I recently received a copy of this book and it has inspired me to add edibles to my patio garden. The author gives quick pointers, (nicely illustrated with photos) with helpful hints on planting, care, choices of crop. She has also divided the suggested plantings by growing time. Working with a limited amount of light and a fairly short season (I live in New York), it gives me an overview of what I'm in for, time-wise as I make my selections. I'd recommend this for urban gardeners and those with limited space who'd like to go a step further than just flowers in your balcony pots.
_____

Initially I bought this book to over come the inadequate coverage on growing herbs in my basic gardening books. This book overcomes the problem by including a much wider variety than the normal parsley, basil, and oregano selection. There are plain instructions for using paper bags to capture seeds or hang foliage for drying.

As a Square Foot Gardner, I'm always interested in getting as much production as I can out of small spaces. This book is not built on the SFG method, but is a great companion to the SFG book because of the way it uses containers to provide gardens on patios, paths, and other constrained spaces. It has many clear photographs and explanations that can keep beginners from going down the wrong path, and inform even experienced gardeners in better ways to tend and use their production.

The best thing is that the article for each plant is short and well illustrated. One does not have to wade through multiple sections to get basic information on growing techniques, how a health plant should look, pest prevention, and harvesting.
______

Great book, it made a great Christmas gift. great quality and very informative. really enjoyed all the suggestions and ideas.
