Tutorials In Introductory Physics and Homework Package
Tutorials in Introductory Physics is based on extensive teaching experience and more than twenty years of research in which the Physics Education Group has sought to identify and address common difficulties that students encounter in studying physics. Development of the tutorials was motivated by the conviction that in order to develop a functional understanding of the material students need more assistance than they can obtain through listening to lectures, reading the textbook, and solving standard quantitative problems. Tutorials in Introductory Physics is intended to supplement these traditional forms of instruction by providing a structure that promotes the active mental engagement of students in the process of learning physics. The materials are equally appropriate for algebra-based and calculus-based courses. Working together in small collaborative groups, students help one another go through the steps in reasoning necessary for the construction and application of important concepts and principles. The tutorials have been rigorously class-tested at the University of Washington, at other research universities, and at two-year and four-year colleges.

This First Edition of Tutorials in Introductory Physics builds upon the Preliminary Edition. In addition to new and revised tutorials on mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and waves and optics, the First Edition also includes tutorials on selected topics from hydrostatics, thermodynamics, and modern physics. In all cases,, a complete tutorial sequence consists of a pretest, worksheet, homework assignment, and examination questions that serve as cost-tests. The student texts consist of the tutorial worksheets and homework assignments. Pretests are included in the Instructors Guides: For these instructional materials to be most effective, it is important that course examinations include qualitative questions that emphasize the concepts and reasoning skills developed in the tutorials.

Smart Data: Enterprise Performance Optimization Strategy

FREEDownload : Smart Data: Enterprise Performance Optimization Strategy

James A. George, James A. Rodger, "Smart Data: Enterprise Performance Optimization Strategy"
2010 | pages: 351 | ISBN: 0470473258 | PDF | 4 mb

Smart Data: Enterprise Performance Optimization Strategy
The authors advocate attention to smart data strategy as an organizing element of enterprise performance optimization. They believe that "smart data" as a corporate priority could revolutionize government or commercial enterprise performance much like "six sigma" or "total quality" as organizing paradigms have done in the past. This revolution has not yet taken place because data historically resides in the province of the information resources organization. Solutions that render data smart are articulated in "technoid" terms versus the language of the board room. While books such as Adaptive Information by Pollock and Hodgson ably describe the current state of the art, their necessarily technical tone is not conducive to corporate or agency wide qualitative change.

Ivanka M. Stamova, "Stability Analysis of Impulsive Functional Differential Equations"
2009 | pages: 240 | ISBN: 3110221810 | PDF | 1 mb

Stability Analysis of Impulsive Functional Differential Equations
This book is devoted to impulsive functional differential equations which are a natural generalization of impulsive ordinary differential equations (without delay) and of functional differential equations (without impulses). At the present time, the qualitative theory of such equations is under rapid development. After a presentation of the fundamental theory of existence, uniqueness and continuability of solutions, a systematic development of stability theory for that class of problems is given which makes the book unique. It addresses to a wide audience such as mathematicians, applied researches and practitioners.

English | ISBN: 0826134637 | 2014 | 276 pages | PDF | 1 MB

Nursing Research Using Life History: Qualitative Designs and Methods
Life history is a qualitative research method used to understand how people successfully cope with illness, traumatic events, or other afflictions. Individual histories are told to the researcher, who in turn frames the story within the cultural context in which the person lives. In this book, experienced scholars in qualitative life history research discuss the theoretical rationale for using this design, describe its components, and delineate a practical plan to conduct studies, including a focus on appropriate methods, ethical considerations, and potential pitfalls. Examples from published nursing research with author commentary help to support new researchers in making decisions and facing challenges. This concise, "how to" guide to conducting ethnography research is part of seven-book nursing series, Qualitative Designs and Methods, that focuses on qualitative methodologies. The series will be of direct aid to novice nurse researchers and specialists seeking to develop or enhance their competency in a particular design, graduate educators and students in qualitative research courses, research sections in larger hospitals, and in-service educators and students. English | ISBN: 1482226456 | 2014 | 232 pages | PDF | 2 MB

Writing, Reading, and Understanding in Modern Health Sciences: Medical Articles and Other Forms of Communication
Medical articles are one of the main vehicles of knowledge translation and evidence communication in the health sciences. Their correct structure and style alone are no longer enough to convey a clear understanding of the intended message. Readers must be able to understand the very essence of the article message. That is the purpose of this book.

Writing, Reading, and Understanding in Modern Health Sciences: Medical Articles and Other Forms of Communication will help the authors of medical articles communicate more effectively in today's practice and health research environment. It explores the most effective practices for communicating using three main medical literature formats: through scientific articles, articles where the subject is not based on the practice of the scientific method, and business reports.

Describing how to think beyond the prevailing IMRAD article format, this book focuses on the nature, content, domains of thought, and meanings of medical articles. The ideas and underlying propositions in this book are complementary to specific requirements appropriate for each type of medical journal. After reading this book you will better understand:
How to write what is considered the most important type of medical article, the research-based medical article
How to write an evidence-based argumentative medical article
The challenges of clinical case reporting
The general framework of medical and research ethics
Classification of medical articles and their underlying studies from the causal standpoint

Supplying you with the understanding required to write more effective medical articles, the book includes details about essay-type articles, research-based articles, thesis as introduction sections, definitions as part of the material and methods sections, modern argumentation and critical thinking underlying results and their discussion and conclusions about them. It also examines qualitative research and case study methodologies from other domains.

A must-read for all writers, readers, and users of medical articles, this book supplies the tools you need to write compelling medical reports that can help to improve the practice, research, and quality of healthcare at all levels.

Explaining News: National Politics and Journalistic Cultures in Global Context by Cristina Archetti
English | ISBN: 0230622828 | 2010 | PDF | 272 pages | 4,6 MB
The book challenges the idea that processes of globalization are leading to an increasing homogenization of news on a worldwide scale by focusing on two defining crises of our time-9/11 and the War in Afghanistan.

Explaining News: National Politics and Journalistic Cultures in Global Context
The empirical analysis combines process-tracing, as well as both quantitative and qualitative content analysis of governmental discourses and news coverage of eight elite newspapers across the US, France, Italy and Pakistan. It develops a new multidisciplinary framework to explain news that brings together previously distinct levels of analysis: the micro level of the individual decisions made by journalists, the organizational environment of the news organization, national social and political contexts, the macro level of international relations. The book is going to be of interest primarily to academics and researchers, postgraduate students across communications, media studies, journalism, politics and international relations, as well as journalists, media practitioners and officials involved in public communication.
