Category Theory for the Sciences

FREEDownload : Category Theory for the Sciences

Category Theory for the Sciences by David I. Spivak
2014 | ISBN: 0262028131 | English | 496 pages | PDF | 7 MB

Category Theory for the Sciences
Category theory was invented in the 1940s to unify and synthesize different areas in mathematics, and it has proven remarkably successful in enabling powerful communication between disparate fields and subfields within mathematics. This book shows that category theory can be useful outside of mathematics as a rigorous, flexible, and coherent modeling language throughout the sciences. Information is inherently dynamic; the same ideas can be organized and reorganized in countless ways, and the ability to translate between such organizational structures is becoming increasingly important in the sciences. Category theory offers a unifying framework for information modeling that can facilitate the translation of knowledge between disciplines. Written in an engaging and straightforward style, and assuming little background in mathematics, the book is rigorous but accessible to non-mathematicians. Using databases as an entry to category theory, it begins with sets and functions, then introduces the reader to notions that are fundamental in mathematics: monoids, groups, orders, and graphs — categories in disguise. After explaining the "big three" concepts of category theory — categories, functors, and natural transformations — the book covers other topics, including limits, colimits, functor categories, sheaves, monads, and operads. The book explains category theory by examples and exercises rather than focusing on theorems and proofs. It includes more than 300 exercises, with selected solutions. is intended to create a bridge between the vast array of mathematical concepts used by mathematicians and the models and frameworks of such scientific disciplines as computation, neuroscience, and physics.

Practical Hadoop Security

FREEDownload : Practical Hadoop Security

Practical Hadoop Security by Bhushan Lakhe
2014 | ISBN: 1430265442 | English | 260 pages | PDF | 5 MB

Practical Hadoop Security
is an excellent resource for administrators planning a production Hadoop deployment who want to secure their Hadoop clusters. A detailed guide to the security options and configuration within Hadoop itself, author Bhushan Lakhe takes you through a comprehensive study of how to implement defined security within a Hadoop cluster in a hands-on way.

You will start with a detailed overview of all the security options available for Hadoop, including popular extensions like Kerberos and OpenSSH, and then delve into a hands-on implementation of user security (with illustrated code samples) with both in-the-box features and with security extensions implemented by leading vendors.

No security system is complete without a monitoring and tracing facility, so next steps you through audit logging and monitoring technologies for Hadoop, as well as ready to use implementation and configuration examples–again with illustrated code samples.

The book concludes with the most important aspect of Hadoop security – encryption. Both types of encryptions, for data in transit and data at rest, are discussed at length with leading open source projects that integrate directly with Hadoop at no licensing cost.

:

Explains importance of security, auditing and encryption within a Hadoop installation
Describes how the leading players have incorporated these features within their Hadoop distributions and provided extensions
Demonstrates how to set up and use these features to your benefit and make your Hadoop installation secure without impacting performance or ease of use

What you'll learn

Understand your options for implementing Hadoop user security
Learn how to configure and set up security for your Hadoop cluster
Set up Hadoop audit logs, Hadoop metrics, monitoring technologies and related products
Configure and set up logging, metrics and monitoring for your Hadoop cluster
Discover and implement encryption for data in transit and data at rest
and much more.

Who this book is for

is an excellent resource for Hadoop administrators who want to secure their environment. IT management planning a production Hadoop environment will also find this text useful. This book is also for students who wish to learn about Hadoop security.

Karina Martinez-Mayorga, José Luis Medina-Franco, "Foodinformatics: Applications of Chemical Information to Food Chemistry"
2014 | ISBN-10: 3319102257 | 264 pages | PDF | 9 MB

Foodinformatics: Applications of Chemical Information to Food Chemistry
The explosion in the generation of information parallels the explosion of computational resources. The use of computers to collect, store and manipulate chemical information is at the heart of chemoinformatics. These methodologies, whose main target thus far has been the pharmaceutical field, are general and can be applied to other types of chemical data sets, such as those containing food chemicals. While the use of chemical information methodologies to address food-related challenges is still in its infancy, interest is growing and will continue to do so as the methods prove useful, particularly for providing practical solutions to food industry challenges. Foodinformatics gives an overview of basic concepts, applications, tools and perspectives of the emerging field of foodinformatics. The book is an important addition to the literature and will be of interest of food chemists, nutritionists, informaticians and scientists of related fields. Piles and Pile Foundations

FREEDownload : Piles and Pile Foundations

Piles and Pile Foundations by Carlo Viggiani, Alessandro Mandolini, Gianpiero Russo
2012 | ISBN: 0415490669 | English | 289 pages | PDF | 26 MB

Piles and Pile Foundations
Piled foundations are generally designed using empirical methods, in particular the traditional capacity based approach on which the majority of codes of practice are based. However in recent years the analysis of pile groups and piled rafts has undergone substantial development in the light of new research and the mechanisms for the interactions between piles, soil and rafts or caps have been largely clarified. Paradoxically, with relatively large piled rafts it has been found that a design based on the criterion of serviceability, with the limitation of absolute and/or differential settlement, not only allows a more rational and economical design, but is also simpler and more reliable than one based on the traditional approach.

This book provides an overview of present design practice of piled foundations, under both vertical and horizontal loads, and then a presentation of recent advances in the analysis and design of piled rafts. Altogether it forms a thorough guide to the design and analysis of efficient and effective piled rafts, and it also serves as a useful design handbook for traditional pile foundations.
