Melbourne’s Water Catchments: Perspectives on a World-Class Water Supply
This book charts the history of the water catchments and water supply for the city of Melbourne, which has many unique aspects that are a critical part of the history of Melbourne, Victoria and Australia. Much of the development of the water supply system was many decades ahead of its time and helped buffer the city of Melbourne from major diseases, droughts and water shortages.

The authors present a chronology of the evolution of the catchment and water supply system pre-1900 to today. They discuss major developments, policies, and construction and management activities. Each chapter is illustrated with historical black and white images and also newly taken photos that contrast present scenes with those from the past.

The book includes many extraordinary insights into current and future issues with Melbourne's water supply, including issues associated with the highly controversial north-south pipeline, the desalination plant and the potential for further diversions of the Yarra River.

Effective Time Management Tips and Skills to Increase Productivity and Save Time
Learn How to Add 2 to 4 Hours of Productive Time to Your Day, Every Day!

What could you do with up to 4 more hours in a day to do what you need to get done? You're about to discover how to save time and be more productive in your day, which leads to more time in your life. Does this sound familiar? I used to wake up and immediately get to the office as fast as I could so I could get a jump on my to do items. Maybe I would grab some drive thru on the way, just to save more time. I would stay late and finish answering all of the emails and voicemails I had piled up. I never took any classes in the things I was interested in, I never read any books, I never went to lunch with my friends…all because I just didn't have the time.

However, I would look around and see people I knew coming in at a normal time, going to lunch, getting the promotions and making more money than me (easily looked up on sites like glassdoor.com).

I had my brand new Franklin planner so why wasn't I keeping up with them? I finally got fed up with it all and got back to basics. Plain ole paper and pen were my best friends while I took some real time to research the best time management tools and methodologies. Over time and constant trial and error I finally figured out a system that works and felt like it was my duty to share it with others.

Do these methods work? In the last year, I have gone from a back room worker to my boss' most trusted employee where we discuss the current business and its future. I have increased my income by 40% and rising! I spend all evenings and weekends with my family and have been creating lasting bonds and memories. I get to work at a normal time and I leave at a normal time, yet everyone comments on how much I get done.

Obviously just reading this book will not bestow these great benefits, it has taken me a consistent daily effort to achieve everything I have today. It is very easy to do, but also easy not to do. Find your motivation and get to work today. Hopefully you can find some golden nuggets to implement in your own life and take back control over your time!

Buzz: The Science and Lore of Alcohol and Caffeine

Stephen Braun, "Buzz: The Science and Lore of Alcohol and Caffeine"
English | 1996 | ISBN: 0195092899 | 214 pages | PDF | 9 MB
From Publishers Weekly
Whether they prefer scotch on the rocks or a double mocha latte, readers will enjoy Braun's dissection of caffeine, alcohol and the processes by which they work. For one thing, the presentation of complicated scientific concepts is understandable without being condescending. Braun makes analogies ("Drinking caffeine is thus like putting a block of wood under one of the brain's primary brake pedals") that help the reader to visualize what's going on. The book is also helped by the author's inclusion of stories and humorous moments. From David Letterman quotes ("If it weren't for the caffeine, I'd have no identifiable personality whatsoever") to personal anecdotes about the effects these two mood-altering substances had upon the formulation of his book, Braun manages to take abstract concepts and mold them into something highly readable. Science novices should find this book as enjoyable and well-written as those who have spent their lives working with biology or chemistry.

From Library Journal
Now a producer at the New England Research Institutes, science writer Braun engagingly describes the chemistry, metabolism, physiological and behavioral effects, and reputed health benefits of the world's two most popular drugs: alcohol and caffeine. He seasons the book with references to history, folklore, and literature. (Did you know that Bach wrote a Coffee Cantata?) The treatment of controversial issues?such as the correlation between risk of heart disease and moderate wine consumption?is balanced, and the science is sound. Whether the subject is the cause of hangovers or the effects of caffeine consumption on PMS, Braun has a knack for interpreting the findings of medical researchers and applying them to daily life. He also includes a postscript on the two years he spent researching the book and how it moderated his own alcohol and caffeine consumption. Recommended for academic and public libraries.?Eris Weaver, Marin Inst. for the Prevention of Alcohol & Other Drug Problems, San Rafael, Cal.
